Task 34: Create a BRAND KIT + DESIGN GUIDELINES for Your Business | Canva Free + Word

Learn how to build a basic Brand Kit (with brand colors, fonts, and logo) using Canva Free, Microsoft Word, and ColorZilla Chrome extension — no Canva Pro required.

PART 1: Set Up Your Instagram Post Design in Canva​

Go to https://canva.com and log in.

Click “Create a Design” → Search for “Instagram Post (Square)”.

Choose a free template or start from scratch.

Edit the content to match your message (e.g., "Launching Soon", "Coming Soon").

PART 2: Understanding Canva Brand Kit (for Pro users)

Pro feature explanation – for context only.​

If you had Canva Pro:

You could upload your logo.

Store your brand colors.

Set default fonts for titles, subtitles, and body.

But since this tutorial is for Canva Free, we’ll build a manual brand kit in Word.

PART 3: Build a Brand Kit Using Word (Free Method)​

📝 In Microsoft Word, create sections: Brand Colors

Add small rectangles (Insert → Shape → Square).

Use ColorZilla Chrome Extension to pick colors from any site.

Copy the HEX code (e.g., #0057ff), add to shape color and note the code below.

Add 3–5 consistent brand colors.

Brand Fonts

List the fonts you use for:

Title

Subtitle

Body text

Include font name + size (e.g., “Montserrat Bold – 48px for headings”).

Logo Section

Upload or insert your logo PNG into the Word doc.

If you don’t have a logo, create one using Canva.

Design Guidelines Section

Mention what text is used for:

Headline (e.g., 48px, bold, dark blue)

Subheading (e.g., 24px, semi-bold, grey)

Website/URL or footer (e.g., 14px, italic)

PART 4: Use ColorZilla to Pick Colors (Free Tool)​

Install ColorZilla Chrome Extension:

Go to https://colorzilla.com

Click “Install for Chrome” → Add to browser.

Use it to pick colors from any webpage or design:

Click “Pick Color From Page”

Hover and click on any color you like

Copy the HEX code from Color Picker Panel

Paste into Word brand kit (with a color block)

PART 5: Finalize and Save​

In Canva:

Finalize your post design

Adjust layers if needed (use "Send to Back"/"Bring to Front")

Click Share → Download → JPG/PNG

Save the file to your computer

In Word:

Save your brand kit as .docx and PDF

This will become your reusable design reference for future posts
